Today the new C1 teachers, who have recently started working in modelo BRIT bilingual schools, completed the second part of their initial training course at the CARLEE.
In today’s session we had the pleasure of being invited into some classrooms at the CEIP Augustina de Aragón to observe some very experienced bilingual teachers at work. In Barbara’s year 3 infant class we saw how the children reviewed language and contents from a topic on superheroes and how they then applied their new knowledge to a creative writing activity. We were also able to observe effective classroom management strategies, clear evidence of collaboration between teachers, as well as activities that promote autonomous learning in very young children.
In Marta’s year 5 primary class we saw CLIL methodology being put into practice as the children learned about the phases of the moon and the tides and were then able to explain what they had learnt in English. In this same class we were lucky enough to see examples of other active methodologies being used to engage the children’s attention, manage behaviour, foster cooperative learning and the development of thinking skills.
In both classes, and throughout the whole school, the walls were decorated with examples of children’s work, signs and other visual aids.
After the observation we went back to the CARLEE to reflect on what we had seen and how it could influence our own teaching. So, a big THANK YOU to the teachers and pupils at CEIP Agustina de Aragón for allowing us to learn from you in your wonderful school!
